Cisco FabricPath (net als TRILL) vereist nieuwe hardware om te functioneren, niet alleen ondersteuning voor IS-IS of L3. De huidige generatie Nexus 5000s zijn al enkele jaren op de markt en hebben deze HW ondersteuning niet.

De nieuwere Nexus 5548s hebben wel ondersteuning in hardware voor TRILL of Cisco FabricPath, en zoals Fred aanhaalt zullen deze dan op een gegeven moment ook FabricPath gaan ondersteunen.

IS-IS wordt genoemd als facilitatie protocol, betekent dit dat deze nieuwe spanning tree mogelijkheid alleen op L3 switches met op zijn minst een IOS dat IS-IS support? De Nx5000 is L2 only op dit moment.
